The yacht Highlander is for sale in Majuro, Marshall Islands. The boat is a 1983 full keel (w/brewer bite) cutter Pilothouse Pan Oceanic 46’. Both main and stay are set up to be self tacking. There are two helms, with the inside steering being hydraulic and outside mechanical. The Hydrovane was new in 2017 along with both inside and outside chart plotters, radar, radios (2 stand alone VHF, 1 Garmin with AIS, 1 Icom with separate antenna).

The owner’s focus in his big upgrades in November 2018 and May 2017 was to upgrade the sails, power systems and electronics and add as much redundancy in systems as I could.

The boat has a full engine spares kit under the bunk in the aft cabin and a reserve fuel system in a cardboard box in the closet also in the aft cabin. The boat is ready to set sail and includes $1k of foul weather gear.

Highlander is a fiberglass aft cockpit double ended cutter with 80 HP diesel auxiliary. She has a keel stepped aluminum mast and her decks have a teak overlay. The vessel carries 300 gallons of water and 240 gallons of diesel fuel. The design is considered suitable for ocean passage making

On deck forward, there is a two foot bow pulpit with double anchor bow rollers, Harken furling unit, and electric anchor windless. The teak decks are surrounded by raised gunwales with teak cap rails, twenty-four inch stainless steel lifeline stanchions and double courses of lifeline wire which terminate at stainless steel bow and stern railings. The decks are fitted with ventilation dorades, Bomar deck hatches and flush mounted deck prisms.

The raised pilot house starts aft of amidships, has fixed windows on all sides, and Bomar deck hatches above. The aft cockpit has a binnacle mounted stainless steel wheel helm with engine controls, magnetic compass, and wind, speed and depth instruments.

The bench seating around the cockpit opens to storage lockers and the steering gear. The stern is fitted with a Hydrovane self-steering unit and fold-down boarding ladder.
Down below is a private forward cabin with queen sized berth, hanging lockers, cabinets, and drawers. The anchor locker is accessed by swinging doors forward of the berth. Walking aft, the main salon is next, with port and starboard settees and leafed dining table. The port settee converts to a double berth. Both settees have teak cabinets and shelves above and storage lockers below. Moving aft, the U-shaped galley is to port and includes a stainless steel LPG stove with oven, double stainless steel sinks, and front loading reefer. Opposite the galley to starboard is an enclosed head with stall shower.

Walking aft and up two steps is the raised pilot house. The house helm station is to port, just inboard of a forward looking navigation station. The navigation station has a backed bench seat and chart table with storage. The helm station has full engine controls and instrumentation.
Opposite the helm staton to port is a settee with table. The engine is located below the pilothouse sole. A passage in the aft port corner of the pilot house leads to the aft cabin, which has a double berth and enclosed head.

VESSEL CONSTRUCTION
The hull is constructed of solid fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), using multiple layers of fiberglass matt, woven roving and polyester resin. The internal structure is comprised fiberglass skinned plywood bulkheads and frames and wood cored longitudinal stringers. The deck and cabin structures are of FRP sandwich construction with balsa and marine plywood core. The ballast is encapsulated. The hull to deck joint is accomplished by an inward turning hull flange that is bolted and glued with marine adhesive.
