Keeping the Buoys, Pennants and Chain in Good Shape
A team of four guys headed down to Eneko and Enemanet Islands, about five or six miles from downtown Majuro, to do one of the regular clean-ups of the moorings on Saturday. Helping to achieve the goal was dive expert Brian Kirk, who provided full tanks of air and some necessary dive gear. Captain Cary used his sports boat Wasabi to take the crew down the island.
It was a mixed bag of weather, with a little rain and a lot of sunshine. The team started at Eneko and, using various tools including claw hammers, cleaned up the pennants in significant places. They also checked whether or not the shackles had tie wire and that buoys hadn’t escaped. They then continued to Enemanet to do the same.
The result is that for a temporary period, the club officials recommend people don’t moor at Eneko until new pennants are installed. In contrast, the moorings at Enemanet are all in good shape, with five available for regular size yachts and one for small boats.
The club is planning on a bigger maintenance day in the coming months after the new line arrives. Stand by for updates.
